How to Install
Most people can re-sling their own chairs with a few basic tools. Watch the video, then follow the steps below.
What you’ll need
- Screwdriver or drill with the right bit for your chair’s bolts
- Scissors or snips (to cut the old sling and trim spline)
- Glass cleaner such as Windex, to help the sling slide into the rails
- A spreader tool to add tension: our IRWIN reversible spreader bar works for any job, or the 4-ton hydraulic spreader kit for a whole set
- A second set of hands helps
Remove the old sling
Cut the old sling down the center lengthwise with scissors or snips, then slide the fabric and spline out through the bottom of the frame.
Open up the frame
Take out the top bar of the chair, then remove the screws or bolts from one side of the frame so that side separates.
Slide in the new sling
Slide the new sling into the track on the side still attached, then into the track on the side you unbolted. Keep the spline in the fabric and line the sling up with the top and bottom of the rails.
Tip: a little Windex sprayed along the track makes it slide easier.
Spread the rails
Lay the chair on its side on a padded surface. Place your spreader between the sling rails and spread them apart to add tension to the sling.
Spread gently and only as far as needed; over-spreading can bend aluminum frames.
Bolt it back together
With the rails spread, put the screws or bolts back in without fully tightening them, install the top bar, then tighten everything down and remove the spreader.
Finish up
Trim any extra spline with snips and put the end caps back on the sling rails. Done!
